Module 12: Cardiology (Assessment)
A 16 year school boy noticed that he is getting more dyspnoeic than usual for the past 2 months during his exercise training. There are no other symptoms apart from his exercise intolerance. He is an athlete and represents his school at sports meets. He does not have any significant past history and has been well and doing well academically too. On examination, he appears fit, BP 120/80 mmHg, pulse 60 min-1. There is no pallor and examination of the heart reveals his apex is at the 5th intercostals space 2 cm from the mid-clavicular line. His heart sounds are normal and there is no murmur. The lungs are normal. You would:
A. Ask for history of sudden and premature death in the family
B. Order an echocardiography
C. Ask for history of substance abuse
D. Order an ECG
E. Order a CXR
