Module 12: Cardiology (Assessment)
A 65 year old woman who is a known diabetic and hypertensive complains of sudden onset of breathlessness. On examination, she is dyspnoeic and is unable to lie down flat. Her BP is 160/90 mm Hg and her pulse is 110 min-1. Her JVP is raised and there is ankle oedema up to the shins. There is cardiomegaly and a 3rd heart sound is heard. There are also crepitations in her lungs bases. Her liver is 3 cm below the costal margin. The management will include all EXCEPT:
A. An ECG should be done
B. Intravenous furosemide 80 mg is given stat.
C. Ultrasound of the abdomen is indicated in the near future
D. She requires admission
E. Compliance of her medication is checked
