Module 02: Child and Adolescent Health (Assessment)
Siti, an 8 year old child presents to your practice with a 4 day history of what you have diagnosed to be an acute case of gastroenteritis. As you clinically assess the child for dehydration, it is important for you to remember all of the following EXCEPT:

A. Obesity in a child may cause you to underestimate the degree of dehydration.
B. You would classify Siti as having moderate to severe dehydration if you note sunken eyes.
C. A history of very concentrated urine being passed should form part of your clinical assessment as it is often a reliable indicator of dehydration.
D. If there is associated muscle wasting noted in the child, the degree of dehydration may appear exaggerated.
E. In mild dehydration, there are often no clinical signs.
